Our Ethos

Your child will be at the heart of our pre-school; we will nurture each child in our care by providing an environment which harnesses their potential in a calm and enriching environment.

Welcome!

At Kids Corner our practices and philosophy are based on the belief that children possess innate qualities that will unfold gradually within a natural setting.

The approach is holistic and develops the whole child. Fundamental to the approach is the belief that a child’s early years are the period when they have the greatest capacity to absorb and learn.

The setting has therefore been created with this in mind, with an open plan design to allow unrestricted play combined with dedicated ‘EYFS specific’ areas of learning, allowing easy identification for the children and encouraging them to gravitate towards their strengths, but at the same time directing them to make discoveries and develop connections to other areas of interest easily.

Love of nature, the environment, and recycling are at the heart of the pre-school and encouraged through all the facets of the setting.

With no plastic toys in sight, everything has been created bespoke for the children, from the furniture to the educational toys. We have handcrafted games, craft/DIY areas, a gym, sensory play, block play, a mud hut, science areas and much more.
Our play areas promote a calm and joyful atmosphere, where free expression, creativity, social interaction, motor activity and ‘learning by doing’ are the focus.

Our team are deeply aware of children’s potential, and will guide and support children as they access their well organised, accessible environment.

Collaboration and co-operation are central to our ethos. The relationship between parents, children and practitioners is key to the success of our children’s learning and we will provide constant opportunities for all of their views to be heard and acted upon. We will also support children in their understanding of community, believing that powerful children are helped to understand that they have duties and responsibilities as well as rights. Our planning for children is reactive and is primarily based on the interests, conversations, ideas and questions that come from our children. Our practitioners will closely observe and listen to the children, and plan activities and project work based on their observations. They will introduce materials and resources that will extend their thinking and nurture their enquiries. The child is seen as an active participant in their learning.

The North West has been renowned for the Arts, therefore creativity is at the heart of all learning experiences at Kids Corner and we place great value in children’s ideas. To enable these ideas, we provide lots of open ended recycled and natural resources which encourage children to develop their own thinking. Much attention and value is given to the documentation of learning and the learning process takes priority over the final product. We will document, record and display the children’s learning on low level display boards and tables, as well as through our online portal.
